Melbourne's luxury custom home builders, Canny, has undertaken a refurbishment of ‘Max’s Place’ as part of a partnership with HeartKids Victoria. The project involved the redesign and renovation of three small apartments used by families while their babies undergo heart surgery and treatment at the Royal Children’s Hospital.
The owners of Max’s Place, Heather and Tim Round, took out additional mortgages on their home in 2002 to set up the accommodation and support network after tragically losing their infant son Max to a heart condition.
Inspired by the generosity of Heather and Tim, the Canny team jumped at the chance to help.
Over almost two decades in the business, the Canny name has become synonymous with award-winning custom-build homes. Canny’s core philosophy is based on a passion for turning dreams into reality; this philosophy played a central role in their approach to the Max’s Place project.
According to Canny Managing Director Damian Canny, the 10-year-old units were in need of a facelift to help families feel more comfortable during what are often long-term stays. “When we were told about the great work of HeartKids, and learnt about the story (of Max’s Place), we were keen to embrace the project and make it happen,” he said.
Canny’s refurbishment has freshened up the apartments to create a ‘home away from home’, adding new features and fittings including flooring, lighting, joinery, compact appliances and storage solutions. More than 20 of Canny’s suppliers and trades have thrown their support behind the project.
