Norfolk Island Cheryl Tennis Club and Norfolk Island Travel Centre invite Australian and New Zealanders to their courts for the 2014 Governors Lodge Norfolk Island Veterans Tennis games 20-25 April.
A four day tournament, all players are welcome, synthetic grass court conditions are good and the Norfolk Island club hospitality is second to none. The player mix is unique; a Trans-Tasman gang out to enjoy the tournament combined with a holiday on stunning Norfolk Island and the opportunity to meet the locals both on and off the court.
The games run Tuesday to Friday, the championships consist of Mens Doubles, Ladies Doubles and Mixed Double Events. 4 age divisions - 40s (40-49 years); 50s (50-59 years); 60s (60-69 years); 70s (70+ years). If pairs are in different divisions, pairs must play in the younger division. Players should be prepared to play up to 3 matches per day. All tournament matches will be best of 3 tie-break sets. Plate and consolation events will be first to 9 games. In the event of insufficient entries in an event, a Round Robin format may be played.
The club welcomes repeat visitors back every year and invites new players to enjoy a highly social and friendly comp. The Thursday night team challenge includes themed courts dressed with national flags and players under the spotlight as New Zealand, Australia and Norfolk battle it out.
A social week all-round the local club invites players and partners to their Welcome function and the presentation dinner along with daily after-games drinks on the club house verandah.
The Norfolk Island Travel Centre has special packages for travel from Brisbane 19-26 April 2014 and from Sydney 21-28 April 2014. Prices start from $849 ex Brisbane and $899 ex Sydney twin share per person for a seven night stay. Veterans Tournament registration fee is additional to the above package for those participating in the tournament. Registration is $20 per player (includes nibbles) plus $20 per event. Presentation dinner $45 per person.
