Norfolk Island is a familiar world for Leonie having holidayed on the island previously, next March Leonie returns as a Botanical Art Tutor to share the wonder of Norfolk Island’s beautiful landscapes and unique flora and fauna with visiting artists.
Leonie is a practicing and exhibiting professional botanical artist and one of Australia’s most prominent and highly qualified botanical educators. As well as teaching workshops throughout Australia, she has also taught summer and winter schools in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Fiji and the UK, and art field techniques at Macquarie University NSW.
She successfully exhibits annually with the Botanical Art Society of Australia, where she is past President, Botanica at the Sydney Royal Botanical Gardens and the Canberra Botanical Exhibition. Past exhibitions include New Zealand, England and Canada. Leonie’s paintings can be found both in Australia and internationally in private and public collections.
She has illustrated botanical herbs for Nature and Health Magazine and has done a series of Western Australian endangered Banksias for a book about William Baxter who was a British nurseryman and early 19th century plant and seed collector.
Women of Flowers is Leonie’s best selling book on women botanical artists and their social history during the colonial era in Australia.
Art enthusiasts are encouraged to join Leonie for art workshops on picturesque Norfolk Island. Partners, family and friends are also welcome to travel and enjoy Norfolk’s many activities and tours during lesson times, the group will meet up with the artists for social functions later in the day.
