Business Chicks, Australia's largest community for women are bringing the remarkable Deborra-lee Furness to the Gold Coast in November.

Deborra-lee Furness is an internationally acclaimed actress and passionate advocate for children’s rights around the globe. Deborra-lee will be the special guest speaker at a Business Chicks breakfast in November this year at The Gold Coast Convention Centre.

Deborra-lee is a graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York and has gone on to play a variety of roles within the arts industry including actress, director and television host. Taking a step back from acting, Deborra-lee has made humanitarian work for children the driving force in her life and in 2005 she co-founded the Rafiki Society in Vancouver which assists orphanages in Africa. It's Deborra-lee’s wish that children all over the world be given every chance to live a fulfilled life and to reach their full potential. Deborra-lee and her husband Hugh Jackman are the adoptive parents to two beautiful children.

In 2007 Deborra-lee founded a child advocacy foundation focusing on improving adoption programs, procedures and legislation in Australia and raising awareness and understanding of the issues for adoptive children and their families. As a result Deborra-lee founded Australia's National Adoption Awareness Week.

The breakfast will take place during 2013 National Adoption Awareness Week and international expert Dr Karyn Purvis will also join Deborra-lee on the morning.

Deborra-lee is a tireless activist - she's Patron of the Lighthouse Foundation for displaced children in Melbourne, Patron of the Bone Marrow Donor Institute for children with leukaemia, and Patron of International Adoption Families for Queensland. Deborra-lee is Executive Director of Worldwide Orphans Foundation Australia and a World Vision ambassador.
