A really special foodie experience with the added bonus of being on an island for the day (or longer if you wish), would be to join well known KI based chef and gourmet food producer, Kate Sumner on Sunday the 6th October for her inaugural Kangaroo Island Source Famer’s Market Tour and Cooking Class.

Founder of Kangaroo Island Source which specialises in gourmet food production and catering, Kate will meet guests at the SeaLink Ferry Terminal on their arrival in Penneshaw to walk the short distance to the KI Farmer’s Market. At the Markets, guests will be able to taste cheeses, honey, chutneys, chorizo, olive oils and wine and wander around gathering ingredients for lunch.

Tastings and purchases finished, guests will then be transferred to Kate’s farm-based kitchen which overlooks the picturesque town of Penneshaw. Her 125-acre property incorporates an expansive vegetable and herb garden, olive trees, figs, berries and is home to many Hereford cows, Suffolk lambs and free-range chickens. With this home-grown approach, Kate has created a range of spice pastes, rubs and relishes all of which are produced onsite.

During the afternoon, guests will experience a very interactive ‘hands-on’ cooking class under the guidance of Kate. After all that hard work (and fun), they will then be able to sit down to enjoy their gourmet lunch with wine whilst taking in the spectacular views.

The inaugural Kangaroo Island Farmer’s Market Tour & Cooking Class will operate on Sunday 6th October with further dates being 3rd November and 1st December 2013 and then 5th January, 2nd February and 2nd March 2014.

The cost is $135pp including day return ferry fares from Cape Jervis, guided walking tour of the KI Farmer’s Markets with tastings, Cooking Class, lunch and wine. The SeaLink ferry departs at 10.00am from Cape Jervis and departs Penneshaw at 5.30pm.

For those people who may already be on Kangaroo Island, the cost is $99 per person from Penneshaw.
