Queensland start-up companies will be the first to benefit from the launch of Presence, a new public relations and corporate communications venture focusing on innovators and their intellectual property.

Presence Communications founder and Corporate Director, Leanne Wyvill, said she established the consultancy to help champions of new ideas shine under the right spotlights.

“Helping new businesses attract the attention they need from investors and other potential partners requires an approach that’s quite different from regular product or services marketing, and because start-ups are very niche and tightly bootstrapped they often struggle to be noticed,” Ms Wyvill said.

“Translating the advantages of a new technology or technique into persuasive value propositions is one service that seems to be in demand, while another is building reputations and relationships to attract and sustain the right kind of supporters.

“Presence is about helping innovative ventures be recognised by the people who can make their business grow, and that means applying successful PR and marketing strategies to enhance opportunities to be noticed,” Ms Wyvill said.

To help start-up companies interact effectively with their stakeholders, Ms Wyvill will draw on over 25 years of experience as a communications specialist, including five plus years as an executive manager with UniQuest, Australia’s leading university research commercialisation company.

Cameron Turner, who heads up food innovation company Progel and native plant developer Aussie Colours, said Ms Wyvill has helped several of his start-up companies attract media interest for new products and opportunities.

“When I have used Leanne's PR services, the response has always been overwhelming from the markets I wanted to target,” Mr Turner said.

“These contacts have come from all over Australia and around the world. A number of these contacts have resulted in very lucrative commercial opportunities for my businesses.”

Brisbane-based innovators can find out which PR and communication tactics could improve their chances of being noticed at ilab’s Mentor Blaze on 3 October. Ms Wyvill will join other business leaders at this event for a series of one-on-one sessions to help new start-up founders hone their entrepreneurial skills.

“Mentor Blaze is about exposing start-up founders to all aspects of a successful enterprise, and that includes how to connect with the people who can help them turn their ideas into incomes.

“I’m really looking forward to discovering new opportunities to share my expertise,” Ms Wyvill said.
