The inaugural SouthStart conference and expo will bring together some of Adelaide and Australia’s current and future leaders of technology companies and is set to inspire and empower local entrepreneurs.
SouthStart will be held on Friday 4th October at the Adelaide Festival Centre as part of the StartupAUS Startup Spring festival - tickets to attend are now available.
Adelaide's own Alan Noble, Engineering Director of Google Australia & New Zealand; Niki Scevak, Managing Director of venture capital firm Blackbird Ventures; and Matthew Salier, Director of the New Venture Institute, an entrepreneurial initiative of Flinders University, will speak at SouthStart.
Adelaide based entrepreneurs speaking at the conference will include the CEO of festival app maker App Majik Peter O’Neill, founder of tablet ordering system MenuPad Jock Gordon and the founder of behavioural health and wellness company Sessions, Nick Crocker.
“Adelaide is a growing and vibrant entrepreneurial city but there is a different subset of challenges that come from not being in Silicon Valley, or even Sydney,” SouthStart Director Chhai Thach said.
“SouthStart is addressing these challenges by providing a platform for entrepreneurs to connect with venture capitalists, angel investors, potential partners, media and key industry players. It’s as relevant for someone working on an early stage venture as it is for somebody thinking about starting up their own business.”
Mr Thach said that startup founders don’t need to face common issues, like access to talent, capital and mentors, in a vacuum.
"SouthStart is about sharing lessons learned and is geared towards providing startups with opportunities to make the right connections to accelerate growth, attract investment and form partnerships,” he said.
“SouthStart is a much-needed coming together of local entrepreneurs, investors, hackers, educators and others who are in the startup ecosystem, or who would like to be. It’s about gaining from shared experiences and leaving inspired, with new contacts, knowledge and support.”
The conference and expo will include presentations, interviews, expert panels on social media and digital marketing, raising funds, services and support for entrepreneurs, a startup pitching competition, a product and service showcase and a networking after party.
SouthStart is sponsored by Enterprise Adelaide, Acumen Ventures, the New Venture Institute and the Majoran Distillery. For further information on SouthStart or to purchase tickets visit www.southstart.com.au - ENDS -
