On Saturday 3 August, Tasmanian Electrical and Communications contractors and apprentices were recognised at the prestigious annual electrical industry Excellence Awards, hosted by peak Australian industry body the National Electrical and Communications Association (NECA).

Finalists in nine categories received awards in front of over 200 industry representatives including contractors, business partners, educators and government representatives at the showcase event at Tattersalls Park Function Centre in Hobart.

“The Awards are a great way for NECA members to be recognised for their commitment to excellence in the industry,” said Andrew Farr, Tasmanian State President.  “We congratulate the successful electrical and communications contracting firms for what they have achieved in each project,” he added.

The 2013 business partners were well represented at the Presentation dinner. Mike Siggins from Platinum Business partner CNW and Gold business partners Dean Coady from Clipsal by Schneider Electric, Natasha Brown from Aurora Energy and John Berry from Cables Plus Tas presented awards to the winning companies and apprentices.

Category – Domestic Residence

A single residence project in the domestic sector where the applicant’s contract value is less than $1 million.

Winner: Contact Electrical

Project: Simmons Court Residence

Category – Small Contracting Business

A small contractor, employing less than 10 technical employees, demonstrating a wide range of skills – may be a company or project based.

Winner: Mekina Technologies

Project:  Dunalley Primary School

Category – Industrial Project - Small

An industrial project which may include, but is not limited to, undertakings of a civil, mining, high voltage, manufacturing or process nature where the contract value is less than $2 million .

Winner: Contact Electrical

Project: Glenorchy City Council Water Treatment Plant


Category – Industrial Project – Large


An industrial project which may include, but is not limited to, undertakings of a civil, mining, high voltage, manufacturing or process nature where the contract value is greater than $2 million.

Winner: PSG

Project: Tasmanian Dairy Products, Dry Powder Milk Plant Smithton            

Category – Voice/Data Project

A voice or data project of any contract value.

Winner: Contact Electrical

Project:  Hydro Tasmania King Island Smart Grid

 
Category – Commercial – Medium Project


 A commercial project where the applicant’s contract value is more than $500,000 and less than $2 million.

Winner: PSG

Project: Devonport Homemakers Centre


Tasmanian Chapter Award – Commercial Category

Open to both NECA members and non members employing less than 20 people

Winner:  Don Joyce Electrical

Project:  Tasmanian Dairy Products – Dry Milk Powder facility.
