The industry's peak body, NECA, is constantly striving to attract the best possible talent into the electrical and communications industry.  And at this time of the year we run two awards programs to help us do just that - and in these two programs we are directly targeting those people entering into the industry.  The first program is aimed at school leavers and the second is aimed at Trade Teachers - who are teaching our apprentices.

The Industry School Students Awards

The aim of this Awards program - which has been running for ten years, is to acknowledge students with considerable talent or passion forthe electrical and communications industry, while also demonstrating the range of career options our industry can offer.

There are two categories of Awards:

Commitment to Industry - including students currently undertaking School
Based Apprenticeships or those who are committed to pursuing an electrical
career and have demonstrated this through work experience or similar.

Innovation - for students who have demonstrated excellence in
electrical, electronic or communications technology, inside or outside of
school, and who have developed innovative projects and solutions to challenges.

Winners in each category will receive up to $1,000 and will have the opportunity to receive their prize at the prestigious NECA Apprentice Awards function.

The Industry Trade Teachers Awards

We set up these Awards in 2007 to recognise the critical role played by trade teachers.  The Awards are open to anyone teaching students in electrical or communications
subjects in both public and private institutions.  To be eligible, the
teachers must be nominated by a colleague, team leader or a head of department.

The criteria for judging is based around:

Excellence in teaching, Innovative practice, Mentoring skills

And the winner receives $5,000 and an award presented at the Apprentice Awards function in Sydney on 27 November 2013.

If you know of anyone who might be eligible for either of these awards please direct them to our website www.neca.asn.au

There's plenty of time, as the closing date for applications for both
programs is 20th September 2013.
