Bigcommerce, one of Australia’s fastest-growing startups, will back this year’s Codehire Cup in a quest to find and hire Australia’s best programmers.
The national coding contest pits Australia’s top engineering talent against each other to solve a coding challenge.
Codehire CEO Dan Draper said that the Cup would help Bigcommerce in its recruitment drive while providing a further incentive to programmers to enter the contest.
“Having Bigcommerce on board will help us run the best Cup possible, with prizes across a range of programming languages,” Draper said. “It’s a great sign for the local ecommerce industry that we see so much expansion and employment opportunities for software engineers.”
Bigcommerce co-founder Mitchell Harper said the Codehire Cup would help identify the programmers who will build the next generation of e-commerce experiences for both sellers and shoppers.
“We’re building the world’s best, biggest and most scalable e-commerce platform that will power more than $3 billion in transactions in 2013, “ Harper said. “To do that requires amazing engineers who love solving scalability challenges – the kind of people who enter the Codehire Cup.”
Soren Harner, VP Engineering, Bigcommerce said the company was currently looking for 20 engineers to join its 100-strong team in Sydney.
“By using a coding contest to find the best talent, we’ll be able to quickly spot the engineers with the X-factor -- the 5X programmers who are 5 times more productive than the average engineer,” Harner said. “They are the polyglot master craftspeople who want to create something brilliant. More specifically, we’re looking to find great talent in a range of languages including Clojure, Ruby, CoffeeScript, and PHP.
Round one of the Codehire Cup kicked off on Saturday June 8th. The initial challenge is judged on speed of development, with round two kicking off on June 15th, assessed on code quality and approach. The Codehire Cup 2013 culminates in a live event on July 13th at Fishburners in Sydney. http://www.codehire.com/cup
Bigcommerce makes it easy for absolutely anyone to set up and run their own online store. Having raised $35M in venture capital, and hit 35,000 stores, which have sold nearly $2 billion in goods, the Sydney-based startup is booming. The company’s talented engineering team in Sydney has been the driver of constant innovation in the e-commerce platform, which has laid the foundation for this explosive growth.
Codehire is a coding community and skills testing platform, with a unique approach to unearthing top talent. Its programming contest will see over 700 coders vying for the 2013 Cup, cash, prizes, and job opportunities.
