Baulderstone’s Flinders Medical Centre Redevelopment Project Manager, Angus Ferguson, has won the Australian Institute of Building – Professional Excellence Award in the Category of Commercial Construction for buildings valued at more than $100 million.

In a ceremony which also recognised excellence across the construction industry, judges praised Mr Ferguson’s leadership in the redevelopment of the healthcare facility which reported 1323 days Lost Time Injury (LTI)-free during construction and was delivered on time and within its $162 million budget.

Baulderstone General Manager Michael Harper said the award acknowledged Mr Ferguson’s leadership in delivering a project around the day to day functioning of a major hospital.

“The Flinders Medical Centre personnel, Angus and his team truly deserve this accolade after successfully delivering an outstanding project outcome,” Mr Harper said.

The project team faced significant challenges with construction taking place in and around a hospital operating night and day. Other challenges included demolishing a large concrete slab in an area close to existing operating theatres and ensuring it could be moved out of the demolition zone with minimum noise.

The four-stage project has introduced new benchmarks in design, construction and the delivery of health care in Australia. It is already transforming the patient experience at FMC and will also generate real savings in annual operating costs across the hospital precinct.

Baulderstone Project Manager for the Tower 8 project Craig Weaver was also recognised with a High Commendation for his work on delivering the commercial development well ahead on time and budget after a series of innovations that cut construction times significantly.

“As with Angus, Craig and his team worked tirelessly to ensure the client received the best possible outcome within the projected timeframe,” Mr Harper said.
