Make the most of SeaLink's Farmers Market Ferry fare $32 adult return ($16 for children) and save $64 on a regular return fare. Explore Kangaroo Island's Farmers Market at Penneshaw on the first Sunday of every month and spend the rest of the day exploring the area!

A return trip to Kangaroo Island is as cheap as a family-sized pizza with SeaLink’s $32 return ferry fares to visit the popular Kangaroo Island Farmers’ Market.

On the first Sunday of every month, people can drive to Cape Jervis, enjoy a 45-minute ferry ride and once at Penneshaw, walk a few minutes to discover a range of fresh local produce from the people who grow, farm or make it.

“From seasonal produce such as oysters, lamb and crayfish to olive oils, free-range eggs, honey, regional cheeses and yoghurts, locally grown fruit and vegetables, Kangaroo Island is being nationally and globally recognised for the outstanding quality of its food and wine,” SeaLink Marketing Manager Julie-Anne Briscoe says.

“Growers, bakers, home gardeners and artisan producers mingle with locals and visitors creating a village atmosphere where you can enjoy brunch, indulge in some wine tasting or grab a freshly brewed coffee and wander among the various stalls.

“The rest of the day can be spent exploring Penneshaw’s shops, lazing on pristine beaches, going fishing or exploring some of the great, local wildlife trails.”

Julie-Anne says the lack of big industry on the island and the passion of locals is resulting in a paradise for food purists with big businesses taking note. Kangaroo Island chef Kate Sumner has collaborated with Peters to develop a KI honey and fig ice cream – using honey from the last Ligurian bee colony in the world – is now sold under the Connoisseur brand.

The Island is also attracting big names such as Masterchef judge George Calombaris and Maggie Beer in a major celebration of its food and wine at the 2013 Kangaroo Island FEASTival, from 25 to 30 April, showcasing KI produce such as seafood, game, wine and gin.

The $32 adult return ferry fare ($16 for children) saves visitors $64 on a regular return fare and is available on ferries departing Cape Jervis from 10am and returning on or before 5.30pm from Penneshaw on market days.

The market is at Lloyd Collins Reserve and market dates for 2013 are 3 March, 31 March (Easter Sunday), 7 April, 5 May, 2 June, 7 July, 4 August, 1 September, 6 October, 3 November and 1 December.
