2 February 2010, Sydney: Olympus has today launched its most powerful digital compact camera yet – introducing the Mju Tough 8010. Bringing stylish design to the ultimate digital compact contender, the Mju Tough 8010 offers outstanding imaging performance and will be available from March 2010 at RRP$599.

A tough nut to crack and packed with hard-hitting features to withstand extreme conditions, the Mju Tough 8010 is an ideal companion for active Australians looking for a compact companion designed to take the heat. It is waterproof1 to a depth of 10 metres, shockproof2 against falls from as high as two metres, snowproof4 at temperatures as low as -10°C and can withstand loads up to 100kgf3.

Incorporating the proven super-tough structure of its predecessors, the Mju Tough 8010 assures reliable, high-quality shooting under conditions that ordinary cameras are unable to endure, such as underwater or in cold winter conditions. From the tranquil to the turbulent, whatever the conditions or location, this camera delivers first class results giving you the opportunity to focus only what matters to you – taking the ultimate shots to complement your adventures.

The 14th Tough camera to be launched by Olympus globally, the new Mju Tough 8010 has not only inherited all the notorious tough features but behind its hard exterior lies a highly sophisticated digital compact camera. Offering the outstanding imaging power of a 14-megapixel CCD[7], the Mju Tough 8010 also boasts a powerful 5x zoom and high performance Dual Shakeproof image stabiliser[8].

Double lock Waterproofing construction
A result of years of experience and research, the Mju Tough 8010 now features a double-lock mechanism to for added security to the battery door and is coupled with the use of double-sealing to further strengthen waterproofing for even greater reliability. All USB, battery and card slots now sit behind one door and include a practical internal USB charging capability so you can charge your camera while uploading still and moving images to your PC. Never before has a Waterproof, Shockproof camera offered more peace of mind to photographers wanting to put a camera through its paces.

HD Movie (MPEG-4 AVC H.264) recording
Extended HDTV (1280 x 720 pixels) movie recording is possible thanks to the advanced MPEG-4 AVC / H.264 movie compression format.[9] Compatible with the SD memory card, movie recording can be started and stopped at the touch of a button.

[ib] software
Olympus has developed a powerful new software solution called [ib] to seamlessly connect images (pictures and movies) and people to provide innovative photo surfing capabilities that will turn your camera into a mobile photo album. Using Olympus’ [ib] solution you can retouch and perfect images, as well as organise and create your own personal collections and categorise by person, event, location, date or theme with ease. The software cleverly classifies the pictures according to the recording date automatically during upload to your PC and has the capability to recognise up to 16 faces as subjects to classify accordingly.

Photo surfing
With the [ib] software and 2GB5 of built-in memory on the Mju Tough 8010, the new photo surfing feature allows you to download your favourite pictures from your PC back to your camera and search them quickly by date, person or location creating your very own portable photo album. By recording location information for a classified event or by person or location[10], you can also easily find the pictures you want to print or upload to your favourite social media site or share with friends and family wherever you are on your travels.
