ADELAIDE, SOUTH AUSTRALIA, 13 FEBRUARY 2013 – Astronauts printing their own equipment in space and perfectly fitting running shoes printed on the spot are just two of the ways 3D printing may soon change our world. Not as far from reality as we may think 3D printing, the best known of the additive manufacturing technologies, is already being used to ‘build’ body parts such as hips and organs.

Whilst benefits to the consumer are obvious, the savings 3D printing can bring to manufacturers in terms of time and cost is also significant.

“Not only does the material scrap rate reduce, the ability to make parts in a single build reduces the need for tooling and machining. This brings cost savings for the manufacturer whilst also reducing impact on the environment” says Manufacturing Focus managing director Mark Fusco.

To help existing manufacturers looking to better understand the technology, and the opportunities and implications it presents, half-day workshops featuring international speakers Scott Summit and Warwick Downing are being held on the 26th, 27th and 28th February.

“The opportunity to hear learn first hand from our international speakers about how these technologies are being applied by industry should not be missed” Mr Fusco said.

To learn more about 3D printing and digital technologies join one of the free half-day workshops being delivered on the 26th in southern Adelaide, 27th February in northern Adelaide and 28th February in Whyalla.
