The International Violin Competition in Brisbane is an incentive of Animato Strings, one of Australia's main suppliers of violins, violas, cellos and double basses.
The competition is exclusively for violin players aged 17 or under. It will be held at the Old Museum in Brisbane from 22nd to 24th November 2013.
The first prize winner will win a Master violin, hand-crafted by Konrad Kohlert, a sought-after German violin maker. Konrad Kohlert will take this occasion to travel to Australia and hand over the prize.
Dietrich Lasa, director of Animato Strings, said "I am pleased to support young violin players before they consider studying music in a tertiary environment, such as a conservatorium of music.
"The panel of judges consists of Spiros Rantos, born in Greece, Igor Orlovskiy, born in Russia and Shaun Lancaster, born in South Africa. All of these judges have toured and recorded as soloists. The official accompanist is Brachi Tilles who regularly performs nationally and internationally with Spiros Rantos.
"The winner will perform a Mozart Concerto, accompanied by other contestants of the competition as well as local viola and cello players.
Dietrich said "I am happy that John Curro has agreed to conduct the final concert event on Sunday Afternoon at 2pm at the Old Museum on the 24th of November 2013."

Since 1993 Animato has been supplying string players who desired to acquire a violin, viola, cello or double bass. Dietrich Lasa, director of Animato Strings was a string player himself in the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, performing concerts all over Europe, North America and Asia. He immigrated to Australia in 1985 to join the Queensland Symphony Orchestra. He also taught at the Conservatorium of Music, in 1993 he started the violin shop. It soon became one of Australia's most popular stringed instrument specialist stores with customers from all states as well as from overseas. John Curro inspired Dietrich to go ahead with the International Violin Competition and agreed to be available to conduct the public concert on 24th November 2013.
