Tuesday, January 19th, 2010 - PAN International Creative Services
The latest free concert in the [email protected] series offers a great double act line-up that will celebrate the contagious rhythmic music and dance roots of Brazil, on Sunday January 24 between 5.30pm and 7.30pm at Mueller Park.

Zero to Rio with 100 Drums will play carnival rhythms with in an accompanying orchestra that will send shivers down the spines of participants and audience alike. This percussion style is an ancient form of sound making that has strong connections to ritual and communal life across all cultures.

For thousands of years, the rhythmic and bodily qualities of drumming have been used to enhance focus and to encourage harmony and healing, with people from all corners of the world drumming in groups to forge and strengthen community bonds. This drumming experience will harness the universal desire for individuals to share their energy and be part of a rhythmic collective.

This will be followed by a performance of Capoeira and Brazilian dance. Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian art form that combines elements of martial arts with acrobatics, music, and dance.

This amazing dance/physical discipline has experienced a surge in popularity in Australia that can be attributed, in part, to a broader representation of African people amongst our population.

The dancing and drumming will be led by versatile musician, martial arts expert and dancer Jorge Barbosa, who will be accompanied by a team of experts including two times World Capoeira Champion, Master Goioere.
