Vodafone Hutchison Australia (VHA) today announced that it will provide free repair warranties of up to 24-months to all mobile phones and mobile broadband devices sold to Vodafone, 3 and Crazy John’s customers from December 1, 2009.

Vodafone, 3 and Crazy John’s will aim to repair faulty mobile phones or mobile broadband devices within three business days. To ensure customers are not left stranded without a phone, Vodafone, 3 and Crazy John’s will also aim to provide customers with a loan mobile phone to use while their phone is being repaired.

“Vodafone, 3 and Crazy John’s have decided to make an industry-leading commitment to improve warranties for mobile phones and mobile broadband devices,” said Nigel Dews, Chief Executive Officer at Vodafone Hutchison Australia. “Following the initial approach from the ACCC, we have since decided to give our customers the best-in-market handset warranty and repair service.”

The customer commitment has been formalised with a written undertaking to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission. The steps outlined in this Undertaking offer a market-leading solution that will provide Vodafone, 3 and Crazy John’s customers with remedies as good as, or better than, their statutory rights.

The free repair warranty will extend for 24-months from the time of purchase, with warranties in place to cover customers on single or successive 12-month contracts, 24-month contracts, month-to-month contracts and prepay plans. Prepaid customers who have purchased a mobile phone or mobile broadband device from Vodafone, 3 or Crazy John’s, and have a current recharge with Vodafone, 3 or Crazy John’s, will be entitled to the free repair warranty (for no less than 12 months and no more than 24 months). A 12-month free repair warranty will apply to all Apple iPhones sold by Vodafone or 3.

“Our new warranties are all about providing Vodafone, 3 and Crazy John’s customers with the best service possible,” said Nigel Dews. “We’re more than happy to stand behind the mobile phones and mobile broadband devices we sell.”

“For us, it’s all about a commitment to reliability and providing our customers with fast, reliable repair services when they are connected to our networks,” added Dews. “If a Vodafone, 3 or Crazy John’s customer has a fault with their phone, we’ll fix it as quickly as possible.”

Customers who experience any faults with mobile phones or mobile broadband devices purchased from Vodafone, 3 or Crazy John’s should return the device to their nearest respective Vodafone, 3 or Crazy John’s store or service centre.

There will be no limit to the number of free repairs that a customer may receive under the repair warranty, if required. The warranty does not cover lost or stolen phones or other damage caused by liquid ingress, misuse or physical damage.
