Adelaide volunteer Nouha Jaber has received the inaugural Baulderstone Community Service and Volunteering Award in South Australia’s 2012 Community Achievement Awards.
Nouha won the award from a strong field of nominees and was one of ten category winners announced on Friday 30th November 2012 at the Stamford Grand Adelaide. More than 350 guests attended the Gala event including Premier Jay Weatherill MP. Nouha was presented with her award by Melanie Rowe, Baulderstone Marketing and Communications Manager.
Nouha is involved with more than ten organisations and projects helping Adelaide’s Arabic-speaking communities and has been a member of the South Australian Lebanese Women’s Association for 25 years.
Amongst other initiatives, Nouha works tirelessly for the Arabic-speaking people, finding them work and organising regular social gatherings, holding English classes and arranging home maintenance and food for the elderly. She also helped organise the “Health in a Multicultural Salad Bowl” program, bringing between 30 and 60 people from different communities together for one day each month. In a joint project between the SA Lebanese Women’s Association and police, Nouha has fostered awareness of the challenges facing Arabic-speaking youth and the benefits of their positive participation in the Australian community.
Nouha was among ten category winners across a range of volunteer and community service awards presented on the evening. Details about the awards can be found at: www.awardsaustralia.com/CAA_sa.php. Each winner was presented with a $2,000 Everyday Account from the Commonwealth Bank and a trophy in recognition of their achievements.
