Perth people who are isolated, lonely, or without family this festive season are once again invited to come along and enjoy Mission Australia’s annual Christmas Lunch in the Park (CLIP)
Now in its 37th year, Mission Australia's annual Christmas Lunch in the Park, held at Wellington Square Park in East Perth, is Perth's biggest Christmas Day charity event and caters for over 2,000 people.
Mission Australia State Director Melissa Perry said the focus of the event once again was about bringing the community together to celebrate the Christmas spirit.
"Our lunch is open to people from all walks of life who don’t have friends or family to share the Christmas experience with," Ms Perry said. "We welcome them to come along and be a part of our community on Christmas Day, to enjoy a meal, entertainment and great companionship.
"We also recognise the importance of volunteers in making CLIP happen, many of whom have been helping us for years. In particular we'll be recognising the efforts of our wonderful volunteer coordinator, Rob de Souza, who has been giving his time for 20 years now."
For the third year now, BHP Billiton Iron Ore will sponsor CLIP, in partnership with Bankwest which came on-board as a co-sponsor last year.
"The staff and management from both organisations have worked hard all year to raise much needed funds for this event to ensure everyone in the Perth community has the opportunity to enjoy Christmas Day."
Ms Perry said that Christmas Lunch in the Park continued to be a key feature of Perth’s festive season, bringing the public, companies and hundreds of volunteers together to make sure Christmas was a special time for everyone.
"Financial donations are particularly important to help us run this event and the people of WA can get involved in a number of ways – they can call us or visit the CLIP website.
"People can also deliver unwrapped presents, for children and adults to the value of $30, to Bankwest Raine Square, 306 Murray Street – our Santa's Cave."
