Saturday, November 24th, 2012 - Professional Public Relations (PPR)

Professional Public Relations (PPR) has been recognised for its work on Mission Australia’s Christmas Lunch in the Park at the PR industry’s prestigious national Golden Target Awards.

PPR WA was highly commended in the Special Event/Observance category for its publicity work and corporate sponsorship management surrounding Mission Australia’s flagship community event, Christmas Lunch in the Park.

The lunch, which is in its 37th year, has become Australia’s biggest Christmas charity event, providing companionship to people who are isolated, lonely or unable to celebrate the festive season due to financial constraints.

Mission Australia’s WA State Director, Melissa Perry, said PPR had helped the event reach new heights, with more than 1,500 people attending last year’s Christmas Lunch in the Park.

“This was a significant increase in guests from the previous year, thanks to increased corporate, media and government attention. The team at Mission Australia hopes to build on this again in 2012.”

In 2011, PPR Perth secured the most state and national media coverage for Christmas Lunch in Park that has been achieved, as well as managing the newly introduced corporate sponsorship program.

PPR’s Executive Director Peter Harris said it was an honour for his WA team to receive such national recognition from industry peers.

“The PPR Perth team takes great pride in being involved with such an outstanding client and a unique event that brings happiness to so many people,” Mr Harris said. “It’s fantastic to be formally recognised for the contribution PR plays in bringing it to fruition.”

PPR Sydney won the Special Event/Observance category with its ‘20th Anniversary McHappy Day Campaign’ entry for McDonald's Australia and the Pro Bono category with its ‘Sydney IQ2 debate series’ entry for St James Ethics Centre.

PPR Brisbane was Highly Commended for its Murrindindi Shire Council community engagement program to define a memorial to those affected by the Victorian bushfires of 2009.

Christmas Lunch in the Park 2012 is from 12noon to 2pm on 25 December at Wellington Square, East Perth. All are welcome and no registration is required.
