The international parent company of Australian Helicopters, Avincis Mission Critical Services (Avincis Group) has established itself in the UK as the world’s leading provider of mission critical aviation services.

The Group’s mission is to save lives, protect the environment and provide safe transport for mission critical assets for public services and blue chip corporations.

Avincis’ operating companies deliver across three service areas: life and rescue, including search and rescue and air ambulance; safety and environment, including, fire-fighting, fisheries and marine protection and border patrol, disaster response, civil protection and marine pilotage; and energy support, including the transport of assets to remote locations such as oil and gas rigs and wind turbines.

Avincis has a global footprint which includes the UK, Spain, Italy, France, Portugal, Ireland, Norway, Australia, Chile and Peru. The Group operates around 350 rotary and 50 fixed-wing aircraft, and employs almost 3,000 people worldwide.

There are two Avincis operating companies in Australia. Australian Helicopters, is one of the country’s largest independent emergency and mission critical helicopter providers, with a fleet that includes 18 single and twin engine helicopters operating in emergency medical services, search and rescue, surveillance, police, defence training, fire-fighting, marine pilotage and charter work.

The company’s services are delivered from a head office in Brisbane and seven bases between Torres Strait and Adelaide on an immediate response basis.
Australian Helicopters Managing Director Scott Swift says the newly established group will bring significant benefits to his business.

“The launch of Avincis allows us to share in a breadth of collective knowledge, safety expertise and resources that is unrivalled within the mission critical sector of the aviation business,” Mr Swift says.

“I look forward to Australian Helicopters benefiting from access to the right resources to drive growth as we continue to identify opportunities and expand in Australia.”

The other Australian operating company is Bond Helicopters Australia, which is focused on Energy Support services to the growing oil and gas sector in Australia and South East Asia.

In 2011, companies in the Avincis Group flew in excess of 126,000 hours, conducted more than 3,900 search and rescue missions over seas and mountains, over 36,000 air ambulance missions, and rescued more than 7,000 people from life-threatening situations.

Avincis Chief Executive James Drummond says that Avincis’ ambition is to be recognised as the best provider of mission critical aviation services in the world.

“The scale and collective expertise of our combined group of businesses is unrivalled,” Mr Drummond says.

“In an industry which is globally fragmented, there is the opportunity, and the need, to define and establish a global standard of operation.

“Our focus is on safety—zero accidents—operational excellence and cost effectiveness for customers.”
