The University of Adelaide's Professor Pascale Quester has been awarded one of France's highest honours.

Professor Quester, who is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Academic) at the University, has been awarded the Ordre national du Mérite (National Order of Merit) by the French Ambassador to Australia, His Excellency Mr Stéphane Romatet.

Professor Quester was presented with the honour at a reception at the University in recognition of her contribution to higher education in both France and Australia.

French born, Professor Quester holds a Bachelor of Business from Audencia (one of the top French business schools), a Master in Marketing from Ohio State University, and a PhD in Marketing from Massey University in New Zealand.

Appointed to the University of Adelaide in 1991 as a lecturer in the Graduate School of Management, she became a Senior Lecturer in the School of Commerce in 1992, was promoted to Professor in 2002 and then Associate Dean (Research) in the Faculty of the Professions, before taking on the role of Executive Dean of the Faculty in 2005.

Professor Quester was appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Academic) of the University of Adelaide in 2011.

A researcher in the area of consumer behaviour with more than 150 refereed publications and book chapters to her name, Professor Quester has an outstanding reputation in tertiary education both for her academic and administrative roles.

"Receiving the National Order of Merit from the French Government is a remarkable honour, and we should all congratulate Professor Quester on this achievement," said the University's Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Warren Bebbington.

"When you consider that past recipients of this honour include oceanographer Jacques Cousteau, former French presidents François Mitterrand and Charles de Gaulle, and actors Gérard Depardieu, Isabelle Huppert and Marcel Marceau, Professor Quester is in esteemed company.

"Professor Quester brings a wealth of expertise and experience to her role, and she is a credit to our University, which she has served faithfully, diligently and professionally for more than 20 years," Professor Bebbington said.
