Electronics designer and manufacturer Redarc Electronics has the lucrative European grey nomad market firmly in its sights having secured several distribution trials of its revolutionary new battery products.

Redarc Managing Director Anthony Kittel has just returned from Europe having appointed four major after market distributors in France for trials of its new range of battery management products.

The new range, including the world-first Smart Start® Battery Management System, has been designed by Redarc to tackle the constant fear among motorhome owners of running out of power while on the road.

Growing European exports form part of an ambitious five year growth strategy for the Adelaide-based company which this month celebrates its 30 year anniversary.

“France is the perfect gateway into the European market which has over 1 million motorhomes,” Mr Kittel said.

“We see great potential in Europe and securing a long term distribution deal with one or a number of French distributors is a key plank in our export growth strategy.

“The trials have just begun and we are confident of appointing our distributors in the very near future.

“Discussions are also progressing with one of the largest motorhomemanufacturers in France which would enable even greater speed to market.

“Currently exports make up approximately 3 per cent of our total revenue. We would like to take this to 20 per cent in five years.”

With an expanding export market and growing sales across Australia, Redarc is aiming to take its annual turnover from more than $8 million in 2008-09 to over $25 million in the next five years.

“Redarc has come a long way since 1979,” Mr Kittel said.

“We now employ more than 50 staff and distribute our products across Australia and overseas. Most importantly, despite our growth, we’ve maintained our focus on leading edge innovation which is the cornerstone to our long-term future.

“All Redarc products are designed and manufactured at our state-of-the art facility at Lonsdale and have been developed to meet the harshest conditions.

“The initial response to this product in Australia has been very encouraging and we expect European drivers to be equally impressed.”

Redarc’s new Smart Start® range addresses a number of concerns among camper trailer, caravan and motorhome owners including unexpected power blackouts and expensive damage caused by overcharging batteries.

The Smart Start® range was recently awarded the prestigious 2009 Gold Cup Award from the Technology Industry Association for excellence in engineering and commercialisation.

“We found that owners of camper trailers, caravans, motorhomes, boats, police vehicles
and even defence vehicles were being troubled by an inability to gain the security, freedom and flexibility they need while travelling,” Redarc Product Coordinator Dylan Pinkard said.

“Drivers want a system that manages and monitors the vehicle’s battery sources and ensures they will always have power when they need it.

“There’s nothing worse than an unexpected flat battery when you’re travelling.

“Another problem is the owner’s inability to fully charge high cost auxiliary batteries of different chemistry to the start battery.

“Incorrect charging of batteries can lead to expensive damage and failures, subsequently limiting charge levels and reducing battery output or destroying the battery completely. This often leads to complications during their journey including failures in critical communications systems.

“We have addressed these problems with Smart Start®.”
