Tuesday, August 14th, 2012 - About QT Sydney
QT Sydney revives the art of the Cut Throat Shave with the introduction of the specially imported American barbers chairs that are reigniting traditions past, at the new designer hotel.

The first straight blade razor was manufactured in England in 1680 and by mid 1700s straight blade razors were the most common form of shaving and remained so in many countries until the 1950s.

Straight blade razors eventually fell out of fashion due to the development of the double-edged safety razor with its replaceable blades by King C. Gillette. These new razors required no serious tutelage and also required a smaller initial investment. Due to this, shaving became less intimidating and men began to shave themselves, eventually seeing the demand for the barber’s cut throat shaves decreased significantly.

In the tradition of the Gowings building, in which QT Sydney resides, the barber shop in SpaQ will offer Sydneysiders the chance reminisce over decades past, celebrating the art of shaveology with a Cut Throat Shave on the menu, accompanied with a hot towel and face massage.

Unique Australian product, Mr. Essentials will be used in the barber encouraging only the best for QT Sydney guests.

About QT Sydney

The culmination of some hefty restoration work, the historic Gowings and State Theatre buildings in Sydney’s CBD have been artfully revamped to see the introduction of Sydney’s newest hip designer hotel, QT Sydney.

An eagerly awaited development, with the gothic façades and features of the buildings carefully returned to their former glory, whilst inside the hotel possess cutting edge art and design featuring LED digital art, bespoke furniture and a strong use of bold colours makes clever interior design central to the hotel experience. And you can’t beat the location – it couldn’t be more in the heart of the city of it tried. The bowler hat lights are a favourite cheeky touch, but there’s a huge focus on art and design here. QT isn’t just about a place to lay your head.

QT Sydney is scheduled to open in September this year and is the only Sydney hotel to be a member of the exclusive Design Hotels.
