After their gold medal-winning performance in the Women's 4 x 100m Freestyle Relay on Saturday 28 July, Alicia Coutts, Cate Campbell, Brittany Elmslie and Melanie Schlanger will be the first Australian athletes to feature on the Australian Gold Medallist Stamps for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
In an inspired performance Coutts (53.90), Campbell (53.19), Elmslie (53.41) and Schlanger (52.65) set an Olympic Record time of 3:33.15, beating 2008 gold medallists the Netherlands and the USA to earn them Australia's Summer Olympic gold medal number 136.
Stamps featuring an image of Coutts, Campbell, Elmslie and Schlanger from the gold medal dais in London will be available in participating Australia Post retail outlets from Tuesday, 31 July while stocks last.
Olympic gold medallist, Michael Klim, said "It's a great feeling to be acknowledged in such an iconic way."
"Winning an Olympic gold medal is the pinnacle of any athlete's career and the Australian Gold Medallist Stamps capture these moments in our sporting history. The stamps are a keepsake for us as athletes but also provide an opportunity for all Australians to share in our achievements," said Klim, who has featured on two Gold Medallist Stamps.
Australia Post is producing stamps for every Australian gold medallist from the London 2012 Olympic Games, and they are expected to be available in participating Australia Post retail outlets within 48 hours of each gold medal presentation while stocks last.
"This program recognises the hard work and success of our athletes. It also provides the public with an exciting opportunity to collect their own memento of the Olympic Games, "said Australia Post Managing Director and CEO Ahmed Fahour.
Australia Post has previously produced Australian Gold Medallists Stamps featuring athletes from both Summer and Winter Olympic Games: Vancouver 2010, Beijing 2008, Torino 2006, Athens 2004, Salt Lake City 2002, and Sydney 2000.
