Saturday, July 28th, 2012 - Roy Morgan Research
New research into how Australian businesses are connecting, conducted as part of the Roy Morgan Business Survey, shows 45% of Australian businesses now have a mobile broadband Internet service.
The research also showed that businesses operating in the Finance and Insurance industry are the most likely to have a mobile broadband Internet service (56%), followed by Education and Training (53%), Wholesale Trade (52%), Information Media and Telecommunications (51%) and Mining (51%). These industries are all above the overall business average of 45%.

In the Roy Morgan Business Survey, a ‘mobile broadband Internet service’ is defined as either: Internet access via USB Internet key/modem/dongle, a tablet or notebook SIM/MicroSIM, a datacard or a portable broadband WiFi modem.

Mobile Broadband Internet Service – Top 5 Industries

Andrew Braun, Director Mobile, Internet and Technology, Roy Morgan Research, says:
“It’s no surprise that more than 93% of businesses have a fixed Internet connection. Clearly Australian businesses are also seeing the benefit in mobile broadband Internet services, which enable access to the Internet on the move via a broadband mobile network. With this advantage over fixed Internet, it is not surprising that businesses with a mobile workforce or mobile offices are using this type of service.

“Also of interest is that the larger the business, the more likely they are to utilise this service. This is illustrated by the fact that 77% of large businesses (200+ employees) use such a service, compared to only 43% of micro businesses (under 5 employees).

“With the ongoing investment in 4G mobile infrastructure, one could envisage the popularity of this service to increase across all industry segments and with all sizes of businesses.”
