Bedford Chief Executive Sally Powell has welcomed today’s announcement that South Australia will be a launch site for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

“The NDIS will provide South Australians with peace of mind that should they or someone they care for be or become disabled – they will be supported,” she said.

“Individuals with disability should have the opportunity to reach their potential and their families should be able to pursue their own dreams.

Ms Powell said the new system would shift power from providers to the individual.

“Bedford’s purpose is to ensure everyone can participate and live the life they want, regardless of their background,” she said.

“We would welcome the opportunity to work with Minister Hunter to ensure a resounding success for people with disability, families and carers.

“It is also equally important to ensure we continue to enlist community support and keep this issue at the forefront of public discussion.

“We hope that the Federal Government continues to work with the other states to ensure the NDIS truly becomes a national scheme in the near future.”
