Thursday, July 5th, 2012 - The Black Dog Ride
Online registration remains open for the 2012 Black Dog Ride to the Red Centre.

Motorcycle riders are encouraged to sign up for the weeklong ride. The ride is a fundraising initiative aiming to generate community awareness around depression and suicide prevention, and to raise funds for the Black Dog Institute.

The ride departs from all major capital cities on Saturday 18th August, arriving in Alice Springs on 24th August. This year riders have the option of the Day or Overnight Ride as well as the Ride to the Red Centre.

To register, go to https://www.registernow.com.au/bdr/

Riders are encouraged to register immediately to avoid disappointment, as the number of Red Centre and Overnight Riders is limited.

This year’s Black Dog Ride marks the third year of the national fundraiser. In 2011, almost 300 riders raised $161,665 to assist the Black Dog Institute in implementing their Community Education Programs across Australia.

Ride founder Steve Andrews is hoping to raise $250,000 this year, eclipsing previous year’s efforts.

Ambassador Angry Anderson says:

"Having dealt with depression most of my life and having made a decision years ago to be part of the solution not part of the problem as a basic philosophy to live my life by, I am proud to be an ambassador of the Black Dog Ride, and for any efforts to free sufferers from the grip of depression.”

1 in 7 people will experience depression in their lifetime.
