First Fleet descendants and history lovers are invited to celebrate the 225th First Fleet anniversary on Norfolk Island next March 2013. Norfolk Island after Sydney was a major First Fleet settlement. On March 6th 1788 Lieutenant Philip Gidley King and 22 settlers including 7 free men and 15 convicts hoisted British colours and took possession of Norfolk Island.
In recognition of the significance of Norfolk Island for the First Fleet a week of special events will be held on the island to commemorate the 225th anniversary. Highlights include an exclusive cliff-top lunch at the home of First Fleet descendant and a full re-enactment of the arrival on Foundation Day.
Descendants and history lovers will also have the opportunity to utilise the new state of the art KAVHA public research centre to learn more about their heritage and visit those areas which were originally given as land grants to their forebears.
