On November 17, 2016 Threatmark (an online fraud detection monitoring platform for financial intuitions) detected a phishing email that poses a threat to customers of the ANZ Bank in Australia. This phishing email is the latest of its kind, and was accidently discovered by Threatmark at multiple banking groups in Central Europe.

Threatmark’s probes will detect phishing emails regardless of the brand of financial institution. This phishing email attempts to convince the recipient of the email, to link their bank details with that of the scammer, by providing the recipient with a web link to the ANZ Bank that provides instructions on how to create the link between the two accounts.

Threatmark has notified ANZ’s Chief Information Security Officer of this potential threat via its Australian partner Cybersecurity Essentials Pty Ltd. Roman Veleba from Cybersecurity Essentials has said, “It’s a standard phishing email of which there are thousands circling around and there is no way the banks can monitor all of them and keep track, it’s impossible. There are new ones originating every day. It's up to the bank to protect its customers and that's where the Threatmark solution solves that problem.”

The Threatmark probes are configured to detect and significantly reduce fraudulent transactions and protect online users against cyber threats, such as Webhacking, Phishing, Malware, Remote Access Trojans (RAT), Account Takeovers, Man-in-the-Browser (MitB), Man-in-the-Middle (MitM), and even hard to catch Social Engineering attacks, allowing the banks to protect its customers.

"We believe that only an integrated platform of the best capabilities of web fraud detection, malware detection and traditional fraud detection systems working together and benefiting from the synergy with such state-of-the-art technology as device-less biometrics and user-behaviour sensing can effectively mitigate current and forthcoming attacks," said Threatmark CEO and Co-Founder (Michal Tresner).
