SYDNEY—Ever wanted to experience what it’s like to take on the Tour de France, feel the thrill of conquering every curve and climb along the route?
Just two months after opening its premier studio in Singapore, Athlete Lab has unveiled Australia’s first dedicated multi-rider virtual reality cycling studio to let you do just that and more. Already featured on SBS Cycling Central, Athlete Lab officially launched last week in the heart of Sydney’s CBD on Loftus Street just one block off world famous Circular Quay. Athlete Lab offers cycling and endurance enthusiasts the unique experience of virtual racing and training on competition routes like the Tour de France, Tour of California and other world class courses from around the world.
The Athlete Lab studio gives users the opportunity to develop and train at a more intensive level than before. Through their smart technology, cyclists can get to experience the real-life sensation of a challenging route, along with the top-class guidance of Athlete Lab coaches.
Athlete Lab caters for beginners as well as seasoned cyclists as the software is able to make adjustments to accommodate the individual’s ability regardless of his or her level of experience.
Bikes are mounted onto interactive stations and linked via software to allow each cyclist to truly feel the terrain in real time. You can experience the gradient and intensity of the course as you ride the same routes which have made Lance Armstrong, Cadel Evans and the world's top cyclists famous. Videos of the routes, filmed from a first person perspective, are projected onto large HD-screens in the studio and programmed to be in sync with the rider.
This sophisticated software allows a group of cyclists to ride the same route at the same time, while providing them the flexibility to complete it at their own intensity. The training is conducted in a professional, safe and fun environment, allowing users to achieve real and measurable gains in their endurance and strength through regular practice all while offering the social benefits of riding and of course great coffee at the end.
Michael Flynn, Co-Founder and Director of Athlete Lab said: “Athlete Lab is a result of two friends, one in Singapore (co-founder, Neil Franks) and myself in Sydney deciding to establish safe, effective and fun virtually reality cycling centres where athletes can train cheaply and easily. Olympic medal-winning triathletes and serious cyclists have already started training in the Lab but it caters for all levels and welcomes those new to cycling. We also offer convenient bike storage for maximum utility and ease of use”.
“With today’s technology, Athlete Lab has discovered a better way of cycling training that eliminates the boredom of sitting alone on a wind trainer at home or the dang er associated with riding on the open road.”
In addition to its state-of-the-art facility, Athlete Lab coaches also conduct outdoor training sessions for cyclists and triathlon racers including cycling, swimming and running.
Athlete Lab has various membership packages, ranging from unlimited studio sessions with or without a dedicated coach through to studio sessions that include outdoor squad training.
Cycle the world renowned Le Tour de France, the rolling hills of the Tour of California and unlock your true potential all in glorious HD video. With state-of-the-art virtual reality cycling studios in both Singapore and Sydney, Athlete Lab’s highly qualified, expert coaches use the latest software technology that automatically syncs pedaling effort with a virtual ride program displayed in full HD.
