Four determined young South Australian women are training hard in the Australian women’s hockey Olympic squad based in Perth as team selection for London nears.

SASI scholarships holders Holly Evans, Bianca Greenshields, Georgie Parker and Elise Stacy have been training in Perth for the past seven months in the extended training group from which Australia’s hockey Olympic team is due to be selected in the coming weeks.

Georgie and Elise are from the Adelaide Hockey Club, while Bianca comes from Port Adelaide Hockey Club and Holly from North East Hockey Club. All have played senior international hockey for the Hockeyroos and have played in a number of international test events within Australia and overseas.

Darryl Buchanan, Chief Executive Officer of Hockey SA is hoping the success of these players will give the organisation’s Hookin2Hockey program a shot in the arm.

The program will see over 5000 primary students –including those in regional areas- taught hockey at their local school.

“We are so proud of these women. We have our fingers crossed for them for Olympic selection and we know they will continue to be an inspiration to the new generation of hockey players in our state,” said Mr Buchanan.

Founded in Adelaide in 1903, hockey is an established sport in South Australia, with twenty two metropolitan clubs and a strong presence regionally with thirteen Country Regional Associations clubs throughout the State.
