Australian interior walls are set to follow hot on the heels of current fashion trends for bold and bright according to leading paint supplier, Dulux.

The company has launched its colour trend predications for 2012-2013, and in line with present fashion and design trends, it is signalling a shift into brighter, bolder paint interiors.

The trend predication towards bright and bold is one backed by leading Melbourne house painters, Valdemar’s Painters. In recent times, blue has had a strong presence in retail fashion and according to Valdemar’s Eva Gluchowski it’s now making its debut onto more and more living room walls.

“As fashion has become brighter and bolder, we’ve noticed a parallel trend in paint requests for brighter and bolder interiors.

“Some people can be a little nervous but the effect of bright paints on interior walls can be transformational. With bold blues for instance, run-of-the-mill living rooms are converted into fresh and energising spaces,” she said.

“Certain colours effect mood and energy in different ways. Introducing citrus colours of green or yellow for example can create an immediate feeling of calmness and tranquillity in any interior.

The key to success, according to the experts, is finding balance in contrasting furnishings. Combining brightly painted walls with soft furnishings and accessories in more neutral tones ensures the colour provides its intended effect without overwhelming.

However, according to Ms Gluchowski, while the trend towards more adventurous interiors seems likely to continue in the near future, the popularity of more traditional tones, like earthy beiges and browns remains strong. A claim echoed by Dulux, who have tipped ‘time-honoured’ earthy tones of copper and terracotta to remain popular in 2013.

“While these paint colours are sometimes negatively labelled as too conservative, they are clearly popular for a reason. Such tones create a cosy warmth in any room and their softer nature means you don’t run the risk of having a colour that’s too overpowering.

“Earthy tones are a classic choice and we expect they will continue in popularity for decades to come.

“Whether you’re looking for bright or earthy colours, as professional painters in Melbourne with many years experience we work closely with our clients to ensure their interior dream is achieved,” she said.
