Hook in 2 Hockey

Hockey develops skills on the field that build a foundation for a lifetime. In addition to athletic prowess, hockey promotes confidence, pride, teamwork, focus and responsibility. With an emphasis on fun, hockey is a game to be played and enjoyed for life.

Share the fun of hockey at PADHC with your family.

1) We have the best local hockey club facilities in the state
2) Our juniors are coached by successful and accredited senior club members.
3) We are committed to developing and nurturing all our players regardless of ability.
4) We train our juniors to successfully represent their school and strive to compete at SAPSASA level.
5) We are a community club focussed on fun & fitness for the whole family.

"Hockey is the kind of game that brings out the best in our kids. We aim to teach them sporting skills, but in reality we are teaching them life skills. It helps create self-esteem, teamwork, problem solving and communication skills, and the exercise and fitness helps them live healthier lives. There are so many reasons to introduce kids to the game, and being part of a club like Port Adelaide makes the whole family feel welcome.” Tracey Powell – U9 parent
We offer “Hook in2 Hockey” programs for Under 9 & Under 11 age groups, as well as teams in the Hockey SA Under 13 Boys & Girls, Under 15 Boys & Girls and Under 18 Boys & Girls competitions.

Port Adelaide District Hockey Club

Port Adelaide District Hockey Club began with one team in C grade in 1934 calling itself the Magpies Hockey Club. They won their first premiership the very next year in 1935. Today there are 11 senior teams and 9 junior teams.

Over the years a dedicated group of players, officials and family members have built the club into a very successful and competitive hockey club. The club has many premierships and produced many fine players and umpires who have gone on to represent South Australia and Australia.

In 1952 the Magpies Hockey Club gained its own home ground at John Hart Reserve, consisting of two grass playing fields and in 1956 the first clubrooms were officially opened. The current clubrooms consisting of player change rooms, toilets, lounge, bar, kitchen, storeroom and committee room were opened in 1972 and underwent extensions in 1977.

1987 saw the installation of the sand filled turf pitch. It was also the year the club was first represented in A grade womens hockey.

The current water based pitch was installed for the 2003 season, accompanied by extensive upgrades to the surrounds. Improvements in 2005 included an upgrade of the clubroom furniture and completion of the ground surrounds. A pitch upgrade is planned for the 2013 season.

Take a walk through the Don Germain Gates to learn about the Magpie spirit, pride and tradition. The gates were so named to honour Don's long and dedicated association with the PADHC covering over 65 years of continuous service.

A comprehensive history PADHC 1934 - 1999 written by Don Germain and Dennis Meredith is available from the club and highly recommended.
