The Tailor launches departures to Lake Eyre and Innamincka by-air packages

The wild beauty of the flowing Cooper Creek in South Australia’s remote north-east will be a highlight of a new air package developed by luxury travel specialist The Tailor.

The tours will depart from Adelaide and take in some of Australia’s most scenic areas including Wilpena Pound in the Flinders Ranges National Park, Lake Eyre and the inland oasis of Coongie Lakes north-east of the tiny settlement of Innamincka on the Strzelecki Track.

“Right now the Cooper is flowing strongly at Innamincka, bringing with it an explosion of greenery and colour. There has never been a better time to see this part of the world,” The Tailor Managing Director Drew Kluska says.

“And the best way to see it all is with The Tailor. Our ultimate Lake Eyre and Innamincka journey incorporates multi-million dollar aircraft, amazing local tour guides, gourmet meals and all the characters and colour the outback is renowned for.”

Mr Kluska says the Cooper Creek-Coongie Lakes area is “just the most magical place.”

“For anyone who wants to experience a slice of the real Australian Outback, there is no place quite like Innamincka and no better time than now,” he says.

Mr Kluska says Innamincka is an Australian icon, set at the very heart of one of the most powerful and dramatic chapters in the annals of Australia’s exploration.

“This year we are also landing at the famous Dig Tree, the site from which the ill-fated explorers Burke and Wills set off from to explore the Gulf Country of the north. Upon their return they found their camp deserted and a large carving showing them where to dig for supplies, which can be still seen today,” he says.

Departing Adelaide aboard a multi-million dollar aircraft, a Pilatus PC12, the two day/one night Ultimate Lake Eyre and Innamincka adventure takes passengers to the Flinders Ranges where they are met by local guide Ross Fargher.

After checking in to Ross’ award-winning Prairie Hotel, it’s time to enjoy a gourmet outback lunch before exploring Parachilna Gorge, Blinman and the spectacular Brachina Gorge, returning to watch the sun sink over the western plain before indulging in a Tastings Menu featuring regional produce and native cuisine.

Following a relaxing night’s sleep in one of the Prairie Hotel’s Deluxe rooms, travellers are taken on a spectacular aerial flight over Lake Eyre and outback landscapes, stopping at the Dig Tree, and on to the iconic Innamincka Pub for lunch, before boarding a plane for a scenic flight back to Adelaide.

Ultimate Lake Eyre and Innamincka highlights:

  • Full day air tour of Lake Eyre South, Birdsville Track Punt, Coongie Lakes, Cooper Creek and Innamincka with two stops
  • Tour of the Burke and Wills Dig Tree
  • Lunch at Innamincka with town tour
