With just three years in the marketplace, 40 campuses on the books and a portfolio of some 2,500 teachers Australia-wide, Western Australian software company SEQTA Software (www.seqta.com.au), has been recognised as the winner of the prestigious ‘Product Award’ in the 21st Annual Western Australian Information Technology and Telecommunications Awards (WAiTTA) – the same award technology giant iiNet took home two years ago.

The WAiTTA Awards (www.waitta.asn.au) are held annually to honour the exceptional contribution of Western Australians to various sectors with inventions, products and developments.

SEQTA software triumphed over both iiNet and mining sector supplier R Group in the award category, with its software suite that consolidates and minimises the complex demands on teachers.

SEQTA’s National Solutions Manager, Mr Chris Marley, said the software’s success is largely due to an intimate understanding of the teacher and administrator workload and requirements.

“As a former deputy principal, our founding Director Grant Grosser was well aware of the increasing demands and accountability of our teachers. He was also conscious of the significant inefficiencies within school teaching and reporting systems and looked to find a solution that reduced the stress levels and workloads in this very important sector,” he said.

“The concept for the SEQTA Suite was developed in 2006, trialed in 2008 and released in 2009 after feedback from around 300 teachers. We have continued to improve the software over the years and believe we now have a product which is unique in the marketplace.”

The SEQTA Suite is user-friendly software that amalgamates recordings of all of a teacher’s day to day teaching and admin tasks and provides online access to parents and students.

In this context, many schools are viewing SEQTA as delivering the ‘holy grail’ as the software provides easy mapping of syllabus links such as the Australian Curriculum and International Baccalaureate.

However, the overriding benefit within the emerging academic landscape is the SEQTA Suite’s ability to extract analytical data and monitor behaviour and educational trends, which can then be provided to parents and administrators at a click of a button.

“Having a teaching background myself, I believe this is a brilliant product that has the ability to significantly improve teaching and reduce pressures and double-handling of material,” Mr Marley said.

“Our biggest challenge has been convincing the school bodies that our software is considerably different from anything in the marketplace; however, our customer feedback and this recent award is testament that we have something very special here. As a relatively new organisation, we are looking forward to rapid growth as we continue to meet the growing needs of school communities.”

The SEQTA Suite is available as either a locally-hosted or cloud-based solution and is currently installed in schools with enrolments from 65 to 2800 students, all of which enjoy outstanding ongoing customer support services.

One of the key developers, Barry van Oudtshoorn, was finalist for the WAiTTA Student Project category in 2008 and while working as a graduate for SEQTA was instrumental in SEQTA winning the WA eLearning category for the iAwardsin 2010.
