BRISBANE, Australia (1 March 2012) – The RestaurantDeals mobile app aims to transform the mobile advertising landscape in Australia. It will enable its users to get the best meal deals on the go, according to their exact location.
Consumers in the USA have long enjoyed the convenience of mobile location-based services such as Groupon Now and Scoutmob, which offer geographically targeted deals and specials to consumers in the area. Hayden Adams, founder of Aussie start-up RestaurantDeals, believes that Australia is lagging behind in location-based mobile deals.
“According to Nielsen, 43% of Australians use smartphones on a daily basis, but there are barely any apps available for consumers who want to know about specials in a local area.” Mr. Adams believes that retailers have been reluctant to jump on board till now, and app developers failed to innovate. “Retailers will see value in having their deals pushed to the eyeballs of customers in the local area. It will inevitably show up is as a win-win model for all parties in the value chain.”
Mr. Adams’ start-up aims to fill the gap in the market by offering restaurant, cafe and bar owners the chance to attract hungry customers in the area with geo-targeting.
“Customers will be able to see lunch specials, happy hour pricing, last-minute deals and one-off specials from dining venues around them. We are proud to be front-runners as one the first services in Australia specifically dedicated to meal deals on mobile“
A recent Mobile Marketing report by Borrell Associates found that the redemption rate of mobile coupons is up to 10 times greater than that of paper coupons, with Gartner research projecting that mobile advertising will double annually over the next two years. “It’s now up to the retailers to exploit the new mobile platforms like RestaurantDeals and boost their sales”, says Mr Adams.
