Melbourne public relations consultancy, Ellis Jones reported a full year’s media relations for Sotheby’s Australia. In an exceptional year, the consultancy secured media value of over 690%* for the esteemed auction house across all print, broadcast and online media.

“Our work with Sotheby’s Australia saw the media strategy diversified enabling the company to reach new audiences and form relationships with key journalists,” said Rhod Ellis-Jones, Principal.

Complimenting business and marketing objectives, PR improved brand awareness among new buyer groups, in particular amongst Asian arts and artefact collectors and fashion savvy jewellery buyers. Patronage at auctions increased markedly and record prices were attained.

“Demand for Asian decorative arts and antique jewellery improved as the year progressed, so relevant local and international publications were targeted to drive interest and maximise the exposure of Sotheby’s in the media,” said Mr Ellis-Jones.

Ellis Jones’ relationship with Sotheby’s began at the end of 2010 with the announcement of a buyout of the Australian licensor. Ellis Jones fielded intense interest in the new ownership, producing a strategy to enhance the profile and build the credibility of the new owners.

Ellis Jones has partnered with several Australian arts brands including Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and Chunky Move. The consultancy is developing online engagement and social media models to market specialist arts brands to international markets.
