The transformation of the grounds at the Peninsula Power Football Club and two Moreton Bay Regional Council sites have been completed by participants in the National Green Jobs Corps and the completion marks the graduation of nine of the twenty participants on 20 January 2012.

In attendance at the graduation ceremony will be Lord Mayor Allan Sutherland, Councillors Chris Whiting, James Houghton and Rae Frawley, along with the Federal Member for Petrie, the Hon Yvette D'Ath MP, the State Member for Murrumba, the Hon Dean Wells MP and Lillian van Litsenburg, State Member for Redcliffe, all of whom were very impressed with the work of the National Green Jobs Corps team.

Lillian van Litsenburg, State Member for Redcliffe said that the project provided a supportive environment for these young people where they are able to develop skills and learn to work in a team environment.

“It is a win-win partnership for everyone, the students are learning practical skills and the sites received new grounds,” Lillian said.

The project was primarily based at the Power Peninsula Football Club, but also involved the team working on two Moreton Bay Regional Council locations and a Caboolture Family Network location, with restoration activities that included formwork and concreting, building retaining walls, rendering and tiling design, interior and exterior painting, carpentry and a host of other essential tasks.

The nine graduating participants will receive their Certificate II in Horticulture while the other eleven participants have already successfully secured fulltime employment although they have not yet completed their training.

Managing Director of MAX Employment, Mr Michael Hobday, is pleased to see the participants embrace the initiative.

“Past results from National Green Jobs Corps projects have shown a diverse impact on participants. The program provides a forum for job seekers to network and make friends, earn recognised certification, instil positive work ethics, develop new skills and experiences and build confidence and self esteem” Mr Hobday comments.

MAX Employment clients joined forces with other Job Service Australia (JSA) providers in the Brisbane area to complete this project.
