Christmas Day Free BYO Picnic Lunches in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and Brisbane 12-3pm
Christmas Day can be lonely if you are a long way away from family and friends and you are new to the city of Melbourne, Perth, Sydney or Brisbane, Australia.
Newcomers Network will again be hosting our annual Christmas Day bring your own (BYO) picnic lunch where people bring their own food and share it with the other people who are there. (Sixth in Melbourne, Second in Sydney, Second in Perth and First in Brisbane)
Melbourne - Queen Victoria Gardens opposite 180 St Kilda Road, Melbourne, Sue Ellson 0402 243 271
Sydney - Botanic Gardens opposite the Opera House near the Rockery, Sydney, Karine Pham 0450 637 414
Brisbane - City Botanic Gardens near the cycle hire next to Albert and Alice Streets, Brisbane, Jacquie Sadi-Brydon 0468 918 120
Perth - Kings Park next to the War Memorial, Lot 47 Mounts Bay Road, Kings Park, Kaylia Sayce 0415 761 376
Everyone is invited. Guests can come on their own or with other people for any part of the time between 12pm and 3pm.
It is free to attend. Everyone is welcome - including newcomers, expatriates, Christmas orphans, people who are single, married, couples, families, students, tourists, migrants, local residents, Australian citizens, refugees, children, adults, young or old, any faith or religion.
People who are looking for an alternative option for Christmas Day can register on our website and be on our mailing list and receive a reminder or just TURN UP on the day - we will be there, rain hail or shine.
In the past, we have had two single people meet and apologise for not attending last year as they were going on holiday together. One couple came with their elderly dog because they couldn’t go anywhere else with a dog on Christmas Day. Another scouting family came because they wanted to meet new arrivals to Australia. A single mother came with her child because she felt shunned by her family. An elderly man arrived after hearing a story on late night radio. A Muslim family came as did a large group of Chinese students. It is literally open to anyone who would like to attend. There is always plenty of food to share too.
To find our group, make sure you have the phone number of the host or visit our website at http://www.newcomersnetwork.com - all events are listed on the right hand side of every page of the site to see a detailed map and further information.
