Contractor payroll outsourcer One Vendor is at the forefront of the contractor market in Australia and has seen a significant takeup of its contractor payroll back office service during a busy first half of 2009, enabling it to grow its revenues by over 300%.

Lorne Lee, Consulting Director, believes we are experiencing a cyclical trend in the way corporate clients will be hiring contractors over the next three to four years, with boutique recruitment agencies often being preferred by the client when sourcing white-collar contract and permanent positions.

“We’ve experienced a lot of senior recruiters entering the market in joint ventures, partnerships and even on their own so far this year, most with great success particularly on the contracting side of their business. In the late '90s clients often preferred to utilise the services of niche or boutique agencies to fill their contract and permanent positions as opposed to the larger agencies,” said Lee.

“I think it’s simply a case that the client gets access to a very senior recruiter who is often one of the owners or directors of the business and this gives them a greater degree of confidence.”

Lee is of the opinion that we are going to continue to see a trend where the smaller, boutique agencies are being given access to large clients through second tier PSA appointments. “We have a host of One Vendor clients signing up because they are being asked to become a second tier contractor panel member for some very large, often global, corporate clients.”
