Melbourne’s West will be home to a major new retail destination following planning approval by Wyndham City Council for Stage 1 of the new $100 million Williams Landing Shopping Centre.

Williams Landing Shopping Centre is set to house more than 28,000 sqm of retail and commercial office space and will include national brands and independent retailers, offering a mix of fashion, fresh food, services and convenience retail. Subject to leasing, the Centre is scheduled to open to the public in late 2013 or early 2014.

Cedar Woods’ Development Director, Patrick Archer, explained that planning approval for the Shopping Centre, the first stage in the development of the Williams Landing Town Centre, was a significant milestone in the development process.

“Williams Landing Shopping Centre will be a state-of-the-art retail centre offering comfort, convenience and innovative design in an enclosed mall, surrounded by commercial and office tenancies fronting the main streets,” Mr Archer said.

“The landmark development has already attracted strong interest from major retailers, with Woolworths and Big W signing on as anchor tenants earlier this year,” Mr Archer concluded.

Located in Wyndham, Australia’s fastest growing municipality, Williams Landing has been identified as Melbourne’s primary residential growth corridor by the Victorian State Government. Williams Landing is strategically located at the heart of this rapidly growing region in the higher income areas of Wyndham.

The State Government and developer, Cedar Woods, have positioned Williams Landing as a major mixed-use urban centre for Melbourne’s West hosting business services and a wide range of professional employment opportunities that are not currently supported in the region.

Wyndham Mayor, Councillor John Menegazzo, said Williams Landing Shopping Centre would be a key retail precinct in the City.

“As our community continues to grow, it is integral that our local infrastructure and amenities are appropriate for our needs. The Williams Landing Shopping Centre responds to a major need for quality retailing, restaurants and office accommodation,” Mr Menegazzo said.

The Shopping Centre will be located alongside the new Williams Landing train station and freeway interchange being constructed by the State Government at a cost of around $100 million. Williams Landing station and freeway interchange are due to open in late 2012 ahead of the planned completion of the Shopping Centre.
