The Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) together with the Queensland Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation (DEEDI) last week launched the Digital Economy workshop road show in Cairns.

The Cairns workshop was held on Monday after the Cairns Chamber of Commerce hosted event, High Speed Broadband for Lunch.

The workshop presents a range of free business tools designed to assist businesses navigate information surrounding the digital economy and NBN, via the ‘ichoose’ website. One new addition to the ichoose website is an interactive business planner that serves as an education tool on the digital economy and targets small business owners.

The presenter for Cairns, Mr Jon O’Brien, Group GM, Telstra and AIIA member, discussed the digital economy from a business perspective while demonstrating the ichoose site.

The presentation illustrated the considerations that businesses need to think about to prepare themselves to compete in an increasingly global economy. The ichoose site is designed to lead businesses through an education process, step by step, so that they can realise the efficiencies ICT can bring to grow their business.

AIIA invites members from across the state to attend the workshops with their customers. Associations from other industries are also invited to attend so that their members may take advantage of these tools available.

Aside from targeting small business owners, the ichoose site serves as a good educational reference tool for anyone interested in the digital economy, and offers a practical way to increase knowledge in readiness for a digital boom, on the back of the NBN rollout.

Industry associations, business leaders, and all levels of government are encouraged to attend these workshops.

Other confirmed roadshow locations around the state include:

Rockhampton – 23rd November 2011
Townsville – 24rd November 2011
Mt Isa – 30th November 2011
