Internationally acclaimed blonde divas from stage, screen and record charts reclaim the spotlight in IMPOSSIBLE BLONDE - Snapshots Of Blonde Divas Over The Decades.

Created by leading Australian musical theatre and comedy star Katrina Retallick, and acclaimed writer James Millar, IMPOSSIBLE BLONDE brings to life the extraordinary lives of seven inspiring and renowned blonde icons – Marlene Dietrich, Marilyn Monroe, Peggy Lee, Doris Day, Petula Clark, Dusty Springfield and Julie Andrews. These blonde divas will once again take centre stage as part of Trevor Ashley’s Showqueen Sunday on August 2 at The Supper Club, Taylor Square.

Retallick who has been critiqued as, “A knockout stage personality” (Sunday Mail), delves into the lives of these talented women through song, glamour and comedy by breathing new life into these iconic performers. Retallick weaves two or three signature tunes with some personal episodes from their lives, often depicting a comic, touching, controversial or dark side of these iconic women of song. It is through these revelations, music and performance styles that Retallick explores the unique challenges faced by these women and asks the question just how ‘impossible’ was it to BE these women.

“In creating this show with James, we wanted to explore the reality of being a blonde icon of the 20th Century and how life doesn’t always imitate art. These remarkable women were all classified by the media and public, establishing the stereotypes we know today: Marlene Dietrich - desirable sex goddess, Marilyn - ditzy sexy blonde, Doris Day - quintessential girl-next-door and Dusty - the wild one. Although stereotyped, they were fundamentally women who faced the same fears and challenges, ups-and-downs as all women,” Retallick said.

Songs featured include ‘Falling In Love Again’, ‘Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend’, ‘Bye Bye Baby’, ‘Fever’, ‘Downtown’, ‘Son Of A Preacher Man’, ‘You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me’ ‘Secret Love’, ‘The Sound Of Music’, ‘A Spoon Full Of Sugar’ and ‘Quiet Please, There’s A Lady On Stage’ among other classic hits.

IMPOSSIBLE BLONDE headlines Showqueen Sunday on August 2 and is supported by special guest artists Marissa Dikkenberg and Lucy Maunder. Showqueen is one of Sydney's most successful cabaret initiatives providing an opportunity to showcase the talents of Australia's best and up-and-coming cabaret and music theatre performers.
