What: World Record Breaking Picnic Rug at Federation Square
Where: Federation Square
When: Thursday 6th October, 11am –2pm
Established over 60 years ago, Creswick Woollen Mills is Australia’s sole surviving coloured woollen spinning mill.
Each decade has brought new challenges but the Mill survives, currently employing 40 people at the mill and many more indirectly.
Creswick Woollen Mills is a prime example of a regional manufacturer trying to keep the wheels turning through ideas and promotion.
Creswick Woollen Mills is creating the biggest single picnic blanket ever manufactured in the Mills’ 60 year history, using the iconic Australian Billabong Rubber Backed Picnic Rug.
A massive 100 metres long, the Mills has entered it into the Guinness Book of Records in an attempt to create history.
Located just north of Ballarat, Creswick has opened the doors of its factory, creating a unique tourist experience enjoyed by over 70,000 visitors in the past 12 months. Creswick Woollen Mills is the largest supplier of blankets and throw rugs to David Jones.
A range of Personal Protection blankets is also supplied to fire agencies throughout Australia.
