Australian businesses make light of Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) with Mango

An increasing number of Australian companies looking for an easier way to manage their OHS obligations are turning to compliance software company Mango for support.

Whilst Mango is a relative newcomer to the Australian market, it has already established a large list of loyal clients across the compliance areas of quality, health & safety and environmental (QHSE).

But it is probably in the construction industry where Mango is receiving most attention.

A key driver here is the increasing number of companies seeking accreditation under the Australian Government Building & Construction OHS Scheme. Administered by the Federal Safety Commissioner (FSC), the scheme sets the bar high with AS/NZS 4801:2001 certification being a prerequisite for applicants.

One such company who has achieved accreditation under the scheme is Rockhampton-based, JM Kelly Group. And as Managing Director Geoff Murphy explains, Mango has been instrumental in facilitating their OHS efforts: “In the full knowledge that our people are our most important asset, we need a stringent and robust OHS framework that incorporates a consistent tool for managing construction industry incidents - and therefore looking after our people. We also need it to be user friendly, able to monitor and manage our statutory reporting requirements and capable of storing our information electronically. We have found the answer to our requirements in Mango.”

Murphy is also quick to point out the role performed by Mango’s local business partner – Global Strategies Group – who provided the company with all the value-add service and advice they needed to achieve a seamless OHS management system using Mango and in turn achieve their strategic goal of federal safety accreditation.

According to Mango’s Managing Director, Peter Rogers, the partnership with Global Strategies Group has been key to their success: “Having consultants on the ground we can rely on to implement Mango properly and give clients the subject matter expertise they need, is critical. Mango plus Global Strategies Group – working as one - is the main reason for the fabulous customer feedback we’re getting in Queensland.”

Another organisation benefiting from Mango is civil engineering construction company, Bielby Holdings. Project Manager, Sam Bates explains: “With several projects on the go at any one time, we needed a system to keep track of our compliance requirements and ensure all the latest documents were available to all our staff in real time. Mango has not only met these requirements, it has also allowed us to track our company's performance globally across all projects. Mango has been an asset to our company and has played an integral part in enabling us to achieve accreditation in the Australian Government Building & Construction OHS Scheme."

As for Global Strategies Group, the partnership with Mango has lived up to expectations from day 1. Managing Director Alan Grafton explains: “Whilst the feedback we’re getting from clients is fantastic, it’s not surprising. It took us a long time to find a software solution that we believed in and were prepared to hang our hat on. When we saw Mango we knew immediately that it had the potential to deliver big benefits to our clients. You can tell Mango has been designed by guys with real-world industry experience, not software geeks.”

For Mango and Global Strategies Group the future looks bright, especially with more regulatory change on its way. Peter Rogers explains: “With the national harmonisation of work health & safety just around the corner, the smart organisations are going to use it as an opportunity to rationalise and refine their OHS systems. Mango is a real enabler in these situations.”
