Affordability continues to be the number one obstacle for many prospective homebuyers, despite the current flat market. With median property prices in many areas significantly higher than incomes and with rents on the rise, buyers are finding themselves priced out of the housing market in many parts of Australia - especially the capital cities.

However, the good news is that there are suburbs with affordable properties available in capital cities and in areas with high growth potential. Your Investment Property magazine has compiled a list of Australia’s hottest suburbs under $500,000 where buyers can snag a bargain.

Editor of Your Investment Property Nila Sweeney says the results of the research would be welcome relief to prospective buyers looking for a property within their budget.

“The current condition of the property market means there are actually a lot of affordable options, even in capital cities,” says Sweeney. “We have found the best bargain suburbs around Australia that prospective buyers should definitely consider.”

While typically inner-city locations carry a high price tag, many of the suburbs on the list of affordable areas are within 10km of a capital city. Sweeney cautions buyers not to buy a property purely based on price.

“Whether you are looking for a new home or an investment, it’s important to pick an area that has strong appeal,” says Sweeney. “Make sure you take into account other factors like amenities, transport links and population growth before you buy.”
