After a successful run at the 2010 Melbourne Fringe Festival with the original piece A + B=? , collaborators Adam Direen and Jorge Tsipos are back with another exciting, two man show. Strengths & Weaknesses tells the story between two candidates waiting for an interview for a mysterious job opportunity. Who are these men? Why do they so desperately want the position? And what will they do to get it?
Devised by Adam and Jorge who are both in their final year at Monash University, the initial starting point for the project spurred from the ever approaching reality of graduating and facing the difficulties of making a living outside the safety net of tertiary education. The production is being developed over a period of eleven weeks and forms part of a “performance as research” project for their third year Independent Theatre Practice unit.
Two parts hilarious, one part truth, but mostly consisting of blatant lies, the audience will find that the two candidates frame a world that is utterly impenetrable yet that we all long to be a part of. An absurd venture into the world of big business, theatre and the unknown, this piece promises to resonate with anyone who has ever applied for a job.
Performing at The Space Dance & Arts Centre’s Red Room, this short season WILL sell out!

Currently undertaking his third year in a Bachelor of Performing Arts at Monash University, Adam originally hails from Tasmania. Performing in live theatre from a young age, Adam has trod the boards with many of Hobart’s notable theatre companies, performing in many musicals, plays, and concerts. Over the last number of years, he has had the chance to also become versed in directing, physical theatre, devised theatre, script development, stage management and short film creation, working with a number of different practitioners including Peter Oyston, Daniel Schlusser and Francis Greenslade. Recent stage credits include Macbeth, Lehrstuck: A Musical Learning Play, Ovid’s Metamorphoses, Blood Wedding and Loveplay all with Monash University. He has also performed at the Melbourne Fringe Festival with collaborator Jorge Tsipos. Upon the completion of his degree, Adam hopes to become a diversified practitioner and actor within the industry.
Jorge Tsipos graduated from Trinity Grammar School in 2008 with honours, a school officer position and as Drama Captain. He wrote for and starred in the 2008 school revue and took the leading role of Fagin in a production of Oliver! that same year. Since then he has maintained a high-distinction average in his Bachelor of Performing Arts course at Monash – which he is set to complete at the end of this year. He’s been in two productions of Macbeth, three productions of Hamlet and various other shows – musical and otherwise. In 2010 he wrote and starred in his own Melbourne Fringe Festival show ‘A+B = ?’ and is currently developing his 2011 solo Fringe show ‘Revs,’ which is to be performed in October of this year. He has worked in television with a bit part as a market shopper in a 2011 episode of Offspring and is currently shooting an internal Telstra DVD in his role as the ‘groovy sales rep.’ He also maintains an irreverent weekly comedy podcast called ‘Unnatural Selection,’ which can be found (along with more info) at jorgetsipos.com.
