Friday, August 26th, 2011 - Sydney Community College
The Hon Tanya Plibersek MP, Minister for Human Services, Minister for Social Inclusion and Member for Sydney, will officially open the $1.3 million Commonwealth Funded Sydney Community College Design and Technology Access Project.

The funds where made available through the Commonwealth Teaching and Learning Capital Fund. The aim of the project was to bring the buildings occupied by Sydney Community College to be compliant with the National Disability (Access to Premises — Buildings) Standards 2010.

Principal of the College, Mr Garry Traynor said that “This project has achieved mobility access to all teaching rooms, which is a 70% improvement. Other upgrades such as student/teacher amenity through noise attenuation, the improvement in teaching resources through classroom connectivity and the inclusion of accessible toilets bring the facility into the 21st century.” Mr Traynor said.

This project was designed to upgrade an existing facility currently primarily used for Vocational Education and Training, (VET). The site is centrally located on Victoria Road at Rozelle. The College has occupied the site for over 12 years and enjoys a high recognition factor. Formerly a primary school, the site has been used by the College to deliver the bulk of its VET effort. The site is comprised of 13 teaching rooms, a student kitchen, two site offices, hallways and a toilet block. The project was broken into:
