Wednesday, August 24th, 2011 - The Glades at Byford
The Glades at Byford is holding a Spring Festival with over a hundred market stalls, free arts activities for kids, a classic car show and the chance for a local school to win $1000 to celebrate the return of both The Glades Arts and Produce Market and the Cyclo Sportif Bike Race to The Glades.

Entertainment will be provided by former Australian Idol contestant Chris Murphy, and Billy and The Broken Lines.

The Festival will kick off with a bang at 9am on Sunday 11th September, as hundreds of cyclists go under starters orders for The Glades Cyclo Sportif race, which incorporates three long distance rides through the Serpentine Valley.

“This is the second year that organisers have chosen The Glades as the base for their ride,” LWP Property Group General Manager Phil Cuttone said.

“Last year more than 500 cyclists took part, and this year we have decided to join in the celebrations with a Spring Festival adding to the fun.”

The Spring Festival also marks the return of the hugely popular Arts & Produce Market to The Glades.

“The markets moved indoors at the YMCA for the winter,” Market Coordinator and Glades resident Mandi Parker said.

“Their return to The Glades is a real sign that summer can’t be far off, and we are looking forward to a bumper market day with more than a hundred stalls, live entertainment, free kids activities and a cake decorating competition.”

AWESOME Arts will be running a Bike Lab Workshop at the Spring Festival, using a purpose built, self-contained kit featuring bicycle parts reinvented as enormous Meccano-like components.

Artist Campbell Whyte will also be on hand to help kids and their parents create their designs to screenprint onto calico bags.

There will also be classic cars, jet sprint boats and motorbikes on show, while school children will have a chance to win $1,000 for their school by taking part in a school pedal-a-thon.

“Local schools are being invited to bring along a team of students from years 4 to 7,” Mr Cuttone said.

“Each school will be allocated a spin bike for the day, and at the end of the day the team that has pedalled the most kilometres will win $1,000 for their school.” To register, please contact Mandi on 0409 115 880.

The Glades Spring Festival is at The Glades on Abernethy Road, Byford, on Sunday 11th September, from 9am until 4pm. For more information go to byford.com.au
